Walk the Tour du Mont Blanc

July 2024
What
I will be walking 170 km from July 3 to july 21 2024. The path starts in France and goes around Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps, through Italy and Switzerland.
The first two days will be spent acclimating to the elevation. We will be camping most of the time though we anticipate a day or two in a Refuge etc. Packs will be slightly heavier because we will be carrying our tents etc.
The Camino Frances had an elevation gain of about 13 km over 31 days and 800 km distance. This tour will have an elevation gain of about 10km over 10 days and 170 km distance…so the hike is shorter but much steeper… with a heavier pack.
Luckily we will only be carrying a little bit of food as there are places to eat and re stock.
My biggest concern this time are my knees on constant steep terrain.
Take a look at my blog posts (below) as they get made, hopefully, daily.
Interesting video to Help you Understand the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB)
Stay tuned for this one
I was plotting my route on a mapping app and was a little humbled by the vastness of the Mont Blanc Massive when I turned on the 3D feature!!

Today July 10
We woke up around 5 AM to make sure no one found us wild camping. Ugh. Still tired. Packed up and started hiking. BTW we are now in Italy. Same mountains but different. All fantastic. Walked about 1 km and decided to make a hot coffee on trail. So we set up our stove...
2 day update
I’ll write a bit then try to send pictures. Internet is very sporadic in the hills. We are in Courmayeur now so hoping I can. So we did climb the Col des...
Great day today to the Col du Bonhomme
2500 meters. The elevation makes the air thin enough to feel when you are ascending with a pack, working hard. we breathed really hard. So maybe 50 steps then a 30 second rest. Parts were steep, basically a scramble. We crossed water , snow and did I mention it was...
