Was a little tired yesterday so I didn’t post.
We are in the thick of the meseta. This is about a 5 day hike where sound minded and able bodied people crack or make it. Wish me luck. Yesterday was 36 km of dirt road and wheat. Today was 20 km of dirt road beside a highway in 28 C heat. It’s getting hotter. A quote from google below.
Large flat plains located in the center of Spain between Burgos and Leon… the meseta is a section on the Camino which most people avoid.
I mildly wondered not doing the whole thing to buy a day and let feet heal but was talked out of it. “It’s part of the Camino “. So I’m doing it and happy I am. It’s a metaphor for plowing through the drudgery to reach a goal.
I continue to ask people if they feel pilgrimy. They do. We are still defining what that means but it will likely center on something to do with community, purpose, effort, perseverance. There’s a decency in doing a difficult thing for a good reason.
Here are a few pics… only a few as dirt roads and highways are not that interesting.
We continue to make progress and think the halfway point is imminent.
